The Classic Princess Comeback!

With the anticipated release of the new rendition of Cinderella, you can be willing to bet that your little ones are going to want to revisit this classic favorite! We can only hope that the animated short “Frozen Fever” doesn’t steal the spotlight…
Since November 2013, this Frozen Fever  has taken over our company (see what I did there?)… and we would be willing to bet it has also taken over your living rooms! As any mom of children aged 3-10 can attest to, Princess Anna and Queen Elsa have had a power over children like no other princess character has ever dreamed of. Here at Official Princess Parties, we have long been awaiting the day when our classic characters would jump back into the spotlight! And it seems like the day may finally be here! Over the past few weeks our hearts have fluttered as we have been receiving bookings for the characters that we began our journey with back in 2008. As long time lovers of Sleeping Beauty, Cinderella and Princess Beauty, we are so thrilled for the change of pace!

Happy Party Planning!

The Princess Ball Toronto

Last year, Official Princess Parties was asked to donate our children’s character entertainment services to an amazing and lavish fundraiser in Toronto, ON. Some of our cast members traveled all the way from our Ottawa princess division to make a special appearance and have been talking about it ever since!

We are absolutely thrilled to join the Toronto Royal Ball again this year! If you are in the GTA and looking to add a little magic to this coming April, then this event just might be for you… and your little princess of course!

About The 2015 Event

Experience an unforgettable afternoon of royal entertainment for the whole family. You will be treated like royalty for the entire day; from the moment you set slipper on the red carpet, to your regal herald announcement, to dancing with your favourite Party Princess under sparkling stars of light.

Feast on a light Royal lunch, resplendent with miniature sandwiches and fine sweets. Sip our signature non-alcoholic cocktail while immersed in this whimsical world of delightful entertainment, interactive storytelling, and of course, the once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to meet Princesses!

This Fundraising Event, complete silent auctions, raffles, gift bags, and a host of surprises will raise funds for the Make-A-Wish Foundation of Canada.

WHEN: This event will take place on Sunday April 19th 2015 from 12-4pm.

WHERE: The Governor’s Ballroom, Liberty Grand.

Dress Code

The Princess Ball is a chance to let your inner Princess out. Whether that means a simple outfit, a pretty dress, or full costume, that is completely up to you! Most of our little Princes and Princesses have indicated that they are going to go in full costume and accessories, and most of our adults have indicated that they will be dressed in outfits other than costumes.

While adults are welcome to wear costumes, please be advised that you may be confused for a character, and have to interact with legions of excited children asking for autographs. Adults, please try not to dress as Cinderella, Snow White, Sleeping Beauty, Elsa or Anna lest you confuse the children. These Princesses will already be in attendance.

Our grownup Princes are encouraged to dress formally (suits or tuxedos) but costumes are also welcome. May we suggest Prince, Knight, or Pirate?

Our Menu

Liberty Grand Executive Chef, Michael Ewing, has put together a delightful and whimsical Princess themed menu for our lunch, which will be served at 12.30pm. Lunch is served buffet-style, and features both child and adult friendly options to suit every palate. The menu includes:

Planning a Princess Party

Official Princess Parties is now officially back in the office after a wonderful holiday season. J Happy New Year everyone! The Fairy Godmothers have some big plans for 2015.

One of the questions we Fairy Godmothers get asked the most about is the timing of a princess birthday party. What’s best – morning, noon or night? Mostly, it depends on the way that you prefer to structure the party but there are some guidelines to follow.

First things, first – someone will always be late. You should always allow at least 15-30 minutes for everyone to get in and get settled before your princess arrives (or any other scheduled activities are slated to begin). It’s also a good idea to leave 15-30 minutes at the tail end of your party for the princess character to leave, the cake to be eaten, etc. before parents come to pick the kids up. Invariably, someone will be just a bit too early otherwise.

Another good tip is to be flexible. It’s a kid’s birthday. If they have to bust open the piñata by 2:05 on the nose lest they throw off the whole schedule, the schedule will be thrown off.

As far as the actual time of day, there are basically three options for younger kids. Late morning/early afternoon parties with lunch, late afternoon/early evening parties with dinner, and mid afternoon parties with no meal served at all.

A great set-up for lunch (and diner, too) is lunch, princess, cake. So for example, you could have the party from 11:30-2:00 p.m., serve lunch around noon, and have the princess arrive for 12:30. She would bring the cake out before she left at 1:30 p.m. and say goodbye while it was being served. Half an hour later, the parents would come to pick the kids up.

If you wanted to be able to skip the meal (mostly they’re too excited to eat anyway), then smack dab in the middle of the afternoon is the way to go. One o’clock is a great start time, with the princess coming around 1:30/2:00 p.m. Put out snacks and juice boxes, and do the cake when the princess leaves and you’re done.

Hopefully, that helps get you started with the planning of your next birthday. For more information on booking a princess with us, please visit www.officialprincessparties.com.

Have a wonderful day!

How to Princess Wigs

Having our princesses look spot one, and ensuring we offer the highest quality of character available, is extremely important to us. A gorgeous gown, detailed accessories and a perfectly sculpted wig, help create our princesses so beloved by many!
Finding our current costume designer was no easy task. However, now we are so blessed to have Julie (our independent costume and apparel designer) working hard for us every month, creating handmade treasures.
The accessories and party supplies come fairly easy. Most of these can be purchased at craft stores and easy created, or purchased at local bargain shops. Our wigs are a very different story. Here is a glimpse in to the huge task of finding and sculpting wigs for our Princess Parties

Finding High Quality Wigs

Believe me when I say, not all wigs are created equally. You always get what you pay for in this case. Although costume and online party stores typically offer a wide selection of inexpensive wigs that look half decent in the featured photo, don’t be fooled. if in an actual store, ask the sales person to take the wig out of the box for you to examine the quality. A quality wig should be as full as possible. This means you should no weave/mesh at the top of the wig. Occasionally, high quality wigs have a fake skin down the center of the part. Although this can be a wonderful addition to the product it can also lead to problems if you have princess performers of different races and skin colors as we do. The safest choice would be for a full wig with no gaps or spaces between the hair parts.
The texture of the wig is also very important. In order to create a beautiful and believable piece, look for wigs that feel the closest to human hair. These wigs will be easier to sculpt and will last the longest. Many high quality wigs can be gently washed and air dried. This can be helpful when the item is going to be shared between performers on a regular basis.

Tools You will Require

Now that you have found a high quality wig to work with, it’s time to gather your supplies. Every Official Princess character varies slightly, meaning different supplies are required for each. Here is a basic list of items that you should keep in stock:

– quality blond bobby pins
– quality black bobby pins
– styrofoam head
– glue gun
– fabric or low heat glue sticks
– aerosol hair spray

Shaping the Wig

Place the wig onto the styrofoam. Feel free to secure wig with push pins, in an area that will not effect the final product or safe removal of wig from head.
When shaping the wig, keep in mind that unlike a styrofoam head, performers have hair lines. Do not pull the wig back too far, as this may lead to a visible natural hair line. Use bobby pins to secure the shape of wig. Hot glue can also be used keep pieces in place. Once you have sculpted the wig
into shape, use hair spray to keep in place. With the exception of accessories such a flowers or other such items, be sure to add additional pieces only after the wig has been securely placed on the princess performer.

Storing the Wigs

Keeping wigs safe by storing them properly is very important. Typically, after each wear the wigs will require a little re-sculpting and shifting. Place onto styrofoam head and store away from water and heat.
